Tampa Martial Arts and Self-Defense, Sifu Garret BrumfieldI am the 1st Black Sash Sifu under Sifu Och. I have been under his instruction for over 13 years and continue to train under him on a weekly basis. I can honestly say that I am learning new ways of self-defense and martial arts and am looking forward to sharing these techniques to those who are willing to be under my tutelage.

Outside of underground boxing, I’ve had no previous martial art experience. My biggest issue was being able to stand toe-to-toe with fighters bigger than myself. With the knowledge that I’ve gained under Sifu Och, I am very confident in my ability to react and defend myself or others when the need arises.

Sifu Och Wing Chun hosted the first ever multi-lineage Wing Chun Florida Gathering.– Taking care of all permits and costs with the city, and renting out the entire center of Downtown Lakeland Munn Park. Sifu Och Wing Chun provided a place for Invited Wing Chun Schools and their students to come down, train and exchange for Free. A Full 7 hour day of training with special thanks to Sifu Garret Brumfield, Sifu Jesse Jones, and Sifu Ray Peteres for helping to provide Workshop insights into their lineage of Wing Chun.

On March 27th, I tested and achieved the rank of Sifu. The test lasted 4 hours and was tiring but in the end, I became Sifu Och’s first Black sash.

I began this journey 13 years ago and just wanted to learn how to defend myself better. In May 2008, I made the slightly difficult decision to start my training under Sifu Och. At that time I was living in Wesley Chapel and making that trip to Lakeland, at least 4 times a week was rough. But 13 years later, that sacrifice has, and isstill paying off.

ICMAC Competitions

Since 2013, we’ve competed in full contact sanda, continous sparring and chi sao at ICMAC in Orlando. We’ve had several Gold and Silver medals in fighting, chi sao and forms.
